February 23, 2015 05:52am
Mike Wallace who had an awesome Thursday night in the Budweiser duals coming from 24th starting position to finish in 8th and secure a place in the Daytona 500. However, Mike is not one to sit around during speedweek so he also took a ride in the first ever Infinity sponsored race in Daytona. Mike, in the #26 Toyota Camry owned by JGL Motorsports, was the fastest in practice for the Infinity Alert Today Florida 300, at Daytona. The new qualifying format is interesting. After a qualifying race that could only be referred to as unique, Mike started the race in the 31st positon. He and some the of veteran drivers chose to ride around in the back until after the first green flag pit stop. However on lap 65 Mike broke into the top 10 in 9th. Then with 40 to go the caution waved for a tire that had gotten away from the number 13 crew. When Mike reentered the race from pit road the #26 Toyota Camry was ready to move forward from the 18th position. Then with 27 to go the 42 got into the back of the 18 and send him spinning in front of the entire field. Mike made a awesome move to miss the big wreck and went down pit road. However, Mike’s radio had stopped working and he had no idea that he could not hear from his spotter who was trying to warn him the cars in front had shut down before an oncoming red flag. The yellow was still out when the front 10 cars came to a stop. Unfortunately Mike had a bad break in this race, but on the positive note he finished 13th on a day when luck was definitely not on his side.
