Mike Wallace was born to race. Like his father, Russell, he had racing in his blood and competing on the short tracks in the Midwest was where he cut his teeth. Also forging a path was older brother Rusty, who went on to be a NASCAR Champion and now a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Mike, the middle of the three Wallace brothers Rusty, himself and Kenny, had his fair share of success in the early days. Winning races and championship around the Midwest put the racing work on notice that Mike meant business, and he was in it to win it. Wallace's long and illustrious NASCAR career began in 1990 with a Xfinity Series race. He finished in the top-10 by placing sixth showing others he did, indeed, have the talent to compete. His first NXS victory win came four years later at Dover International Speedway. He would back that up by winning again four races later at the famed Milwaukee Mile and then again at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Three NASCAR wins during a career is good, Wallace did this in one season. He closed out the 1994 season earning six top-five and nine top-10 finishes. His final Xfinity victory took place at the honored track of Daytona International Speedway in 2004. This wasn’t the first time Mike showed his prowess on the superspeedways, or in the Xfinity Series. The first was a sixth-place finish in the NASCAR Gander Mountain Series race, the second was a fourth-place finish NXS Series race, and the third was a ninth-place finish in the Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts Dodge in the NASCAR Cup Series race. Speaking of Trucks, Mike left his winning-Wallace ways over the field five times during his NASCAR Gander RV Truck Series career. In 1999 and 2000, he won twice starting off the 2000 campaign with a victory at Daytona. In 2011, he made one – and his final – Truck Series start at Talladega Superspeedway. Racing for Kevin Harvick, Inc., Mike and teammate Ron Hornaday, Jr. drafted their way to front with Hornaday, a four-time series champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer, pushing Mike to the win. Today, Mike is enjoying time with his wife, Carla, daughters Krissie and Lyndsey, son Matt, and grandchild Thomas. He has multiple real estate ventures going to keep him busy. That, and he’s helping Matt further his driving career in the Late Model ranks.
